Private Sichuan Journey · 8 Days
8-Day Sichuan Highlights Tour
Meet giant pandas, explore Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong, and discover the UNESCO heritage of Leshan, Mount Emei and Dujiangyan—with realistic north–south transfers planned into the route.
One province, two regions
A highlights route that explains the geography
This itinerary combines northern Sichuan’s Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong with the Chengdu–Leshan–Mount Emei heritage corridor in the south.
These attractions do not form one simple continuous scenic drive. Day 2 is a major northbound transfer from Chengdu to Jiuzhaigou. Day 4 combines Huanglong sightseeing with the return south toward Chengdu, before the journey continues to Leshan and Mount Emei.
The schedule is ambitious for eight days and works best with coordinated private transfers or carefully matched rail and road connections.
Day-by-day itinerary
8 days across northern and southern Sichuan
The two long transfer days are shown explicitly so travelers can understand the pace before requesting a quote.
Arrive in Chengdu · Easy city introduction
Meet your driver at Chengdu airport or railway station and transfer to your hotel. Keep the day flexible for arrival formalities, a relaxed meal and a short neighborhood walk if time allows. Rest early before the northern journey.
Chengdu → Jiuzhaigou · Long transfer north
Travel from Chengdu to the Jiuzhaigou region. A common rail option is high-speed train to Huanglongjiuzhai Station followed by a road shuttle of roughly two hours to the valley. A direct road transfer is also possible but may take around 8–10 hours.
- Train leg: approximately 1.5–2.5 hours, subject to timetable.
- Station to Jiuzhaigou: around 2 hours by road.
- Private road transfer: allow a full day, with timing affected by road and weather conditions.
Jiuzhaigou Valley · Full day among alpine lakes
Explore Jiuzhaigou Valley, known for clear lakes, waterfalls and forested mountain scenery. Use the park’s sightseeing-bus network and select stops according to the day’s operating arrangements and your walking pace.
- Prioritize the main valley landscapes and signature viewpoints.
- Allow time for shuttle queues and walks between stops.
- Carry water and warm layers; mountain weather can change quickly.
Jiuzhaigou → Huanglong → Chengdu · Return south
Travel from Jiuzhaigou toward Huanglong for a focused visit, then continue to Chengdu. Jiuzhaigou to Huanglong is roughly 2–3 hours by road in typical planning conditions. Allow around 3–5 hours for Huanglong.
After sightseeing, continue toward Huanglongjiuzhai Station for a train to Chengdu if the timetable aligns, or use a pre-arranged road transfer.
Chengdu Panda Base → Dujiangyan
Visit the Chengdu Panda Base in the morning, when pandas are generally more active. Continue to Dujiangyan to see the ancient irrigation system and its historic landscape.
- Allow approximately 2–3 hours at the Panda Base.
- Spend the afternoon exploring Dujiangyan’s heritage area.
- Stay in Chengdu for convenient onward travel, or Dujiangyan to shorten the next morning.
Dujiangyan → Leshan · Giant Buddha visit
Travel south to Leshan and visit the Leshan Giant Buddha. Choose the cliff-side walking route or a river cruise viewpoint according to your preferred pace and mobility. Stay overnight in Leshan rather than rushing onward.
Leshan → Mount Emei · Mountain heritage
Continue to Mount Emei, part of the UNESCO-listed Mount Emei Scenic Area. Choose a lower-mountain cultural route or a higher-elevation route based on weather and available cable-car services.
- Mountain transport and walking times vary significantly by route.
- Allow flexibility for queues, weather and operating hours.
- Stay near the Mount Emei visitor center or a suitable mountain hotel.
Mount Emei → Chengdu · Departure
Return to Chengdu by private vehicle or a suitable rail-and-road connection. Arrange airport or railway-station drop-off to match your departure. For an early flight, return to Chengdu the previous evening and add an extra night.
Route logistics
Why Day 2 and Day 4 need careful planning
Day 2: Chengdu to Jiuzhaigou
The high-speed train reaches Huanglongjiuzhai Station, not the park entrance. Travelers still need a road connection to Jiuzhaigou, commonly around two hours. Direct road travel from Chengdu can take roughly 8–10 hours.
Day 4: Huanglong back to Chengdu
Huanglong is in the northern scenic region. Returning to Chengdu is the connection point before the southern section. Combining Huanglong sightseeing with the southbound journey makes this day long; confirm the train or road transfer before fixing the visit duration.

Altitude, seasons and reservations
Altitude and walking pace
Jiuzhaigou and especially Huanglong include high-elevation environments. Huanglong’s main scenic area rises well above 3,000 metres. Walk slowly, avoid overexertion and tell your guide if you feel unwell. Adjust the route for travelers with limited mobility or altitude sensitivity.
Seasonal operations
Park opening arrangements, ticket quotas, sightseeing buses, cable cars, rail timetables and road conditions can change. Confirm official operating information and transport connections for your exact travel dates. Winter weather may affect mountain roads and transfers.
Frequently asked questions
8-Day Sichuan Highlights Tour FAQs
Can I visit Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong on this 8-day tour?
Yes. The itinerary includes a full day in Jiuzhaigou and a focused Huanglong visit on Day 4. The trade-off is a long return-to-Chengdu day. Add an overnight near Huanglong for a more relaxed version.
Are Day 2 and Day 4 long transfer days?
Yes. Day 2 connects Chengdu with Jiuzhaigou. Day 4 combines Huanglong sightseeing with the journey back toward Chengdu. Rail and shuttle schedules must be coordinated for the selected dates.
Is the Chengdu–Jiuzhaigou train station inside the park?
No. Huanglongjiuzhai Station is the rail gateway, and travelers need a further road transfer to Jiuzhaigou or Huanglong.
Is eight days enough for all the destinations?
It is possible but fast-paced because the route combines northern and southern Sichuan. It suits travelers comfortable with two long transfer days. Add one or two days for a slower pace.
What is included in the private tour price?
Pricing is prepared by quotation. The proposal should clearly list vehicle and driver, guide service, hotels, train tickets, scenic-area tickets, meals and station or airport transfers, identifying any exclusions.
Can the route be customized?
Yes. Adjust hotel standards, transport mode and sightseeing pace, or extend the trip with an overnight near Huanglong or more time around Mount Emei.
