High-speed train + transfer
Travel from Chengdu East to Huanglongjiuzhai Station, then connect by shuttle or private vehicle. Usually the most time-efficient option.
Northern Sichuan · Private & Customizable · 5 Days
Explore Jiuzhaigou's colourful lakes and waterfalls, then discover Huanglong's remarkable travertine pools—with practical transfers, flexible stays and time to adjust to the high-altitude environment.
This five-day tour is built around Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong. It avoids a rushed cross-province route and gives each park its own visit day, with transfer time and an overnight stay near Huanglong before returning to Chengdu.
Choose high-speed rail with pre-arranged road transfers for a time-efficient journey, or request a private vehicle for more flexible door-to-door travel. Accommodation can be arranged near Jiuzhaigou, Huanglong or Huanglongjiuzhai Railway Station according to season and comfort preference.
The outline separates the two scenic areas and avoids trying to see both parks in one day. Final hotel locations and transfer times should be confirmed against your train, ticket and travel dates.
Depart Chengdu for Huanglongjiuzhai Railway Station by high-speed train, then continue by pre-arranged shuttle or private vehicle to Jiuzhaigou. The station-to-valley road transfer typically takes around two hours. Check in near Zhangzha Town / Jiuzhaigou entrance and keep the evening relaxed.
Explore Jiuzhaigou's famous lakes, waterfalls, forest scenery and branching valleys. Scenic-area shuttle buses connect major stops, while designated boardwalks let visitors explore selected lakes and viewpoints on foot.
Travel from Jiuzhaigou toward Huanglong and the Chuanzhusi / Songpan area. The road transfer is commonly around two hours, depending on traffic, weather and road conditions. Use this day to move closer to Huanglong rather than forcing a rushed park visit after the transfer.
Visit Huanglong's yellow travertine terraces, colourful pools, waterfalls and mountain scenery. The main route climbs to a high-altitude landscape, so allow enough time and walk at a comfortable pace. Depending on operations, the cable car can reduce the uphill effort.
Transfer to Huanglongjiuzhai Railway Station and take a high-speed train back to Chengdu. If your train is later in the day, keep the morning flexible, subject to transfer timing.
Jiuzhaigou is known for clear alpine lakes, cascades, forested slopes and a network of scenic valleys. Park shuttle buses help visitors cover longer distances, but there is still plenty to see on foot along designated boardwalks.
Start early, choose a realistic route and leave time for shuttle queues and walking between viewpoints. Entry uses date-specific, real-name booking; reserve through the official booking channel and bring the original identification document used for the reservation.
Huanglong is famous for stepped travertine formations and colourful pools beneath high mountain peaks. Its main attraction is concentrated along a rising valley route.
The scenic area reaches roughly 3,000–3,600 metres above sea level. Many visitors use the uphill cable car when operating and walk the designated route to view the pools. The walk can still be demanding because of the altitude.
Do not rush. Take breaks, keep warm and follow local staff instructions if you feel unwell.
The high-speed railway has made northern Sichuan more accessible, but the station is not beside either park. Plan the road transfer as carefully as the rail journey.
Travel from Chengdu East to Huanglongjiuzhai Station, then connect by shuttle or private vehicle. Usually the most time-efficient option.
Door-to-door flexibility is useful for families, groups and travellers with luggage. The road journey from Chengdu is long.
Station-to-park and Jiuzhaigou-to-Huanglong shuttles can be convenient when schedules align. Frequencies and winter operations change.
Both destinations are at high elevation, and the railway station itself is close to 3,000 metres above sea level. Jiuzhaigou's main scenic areas are roughly 2,000–3,100 metres, while Huanglong's main route rises to around 3,000–3,600 metres.

| Season | What to expect | Planning notes |
|---|---|---|
| Spring | Fresh growth, changing water levels and cooler conditions. | Higher areas may retain snow; check road and trail access. |
| Summer | Green forests, streams and waterfalls. | Rain and cloud are possible; bring waterproof layers. |
| Autumn | Colourful foliage and often excellent lake-and-forest scenery. | Popular period; reserve train seats, hotels and park tickets early. |
| Winter | Snow scenery, frozen features and a quieter atmosphere. | Cold conditions, seasonal closures and weather-related transport changes are more likely. |
Autumn is especially popular, but foliage timing and water conditions vary each year. For winter travel, confirm that both scenic areas and required road transfers will be operating.
Staying in Zhangzha Town near the park entrance makes an early start easier and provides access to restaurants and hotels. It is the most practical base for the full Jiuzhaigou sightseeing day.
Choose accommodation based on next-day park access and the onward transfer to Huanglongjiuzhai Station. Chuanzhusi and the station area can be convenient for transport connections.
Hotel standards and availability vary by season and location. The quotation can compare practical mid-range options with higher-comfort properties where available.
